Maine: Attention I-95 Travelers, Miles the Moose and a Special Guest to Hand Out Farmers’ Almanacs

Maine Turnpike | I-95 Exit Guide

Maine Turnpike travelers headed southbound on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2015 will be thanked for visiting Maine by receiving a 2016 Special Edition Farmers’ Almanac at the York Toll Plaza. Beginning at approximately 10:00 AM Miles the Moose along with turnpike employees will be handing out the almanacs and thanking visitors for coming to Maine. With all the favorable conditions this year (good weather, cheaper gas and a stronger economy), Miles is expecting a lot of visitors this weekend and has called in a friend from the Gulf of Maine to help mark the unofficial end of summer. Clawdette the Lobster, a Maine native, will lend a claw. “I’m wicked tickled that Clawdette is willing to work her tail off on Monday to help me thank all the visitors for spending their time in Maine,” said Miles. “We hope that everyone travels safely and comes back again next year, ayuh.”

More than 1 million vehicles are anticipated to travel the Maine Turnpike over the Labor Day weekend. Friday is expected to be the busiest day with more than 324,000 vehicles and heavier traffic northbound between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM; and about 256,000 vehicles are expected to travel the turnpike on Saturday. The busiest hours are likely to be between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. On Monday between the hours of 12:00 noon and 7:00 PM, approximately 232,000 vehicles are expected to travel on the turnpike, with the heaviest traffic in the southbound lanes. Traffic is expected to be up 3.1% from the 2014 Labor Day weekend. From January through July 2015, the turnpike has seen a 4.72% growth in traffic compared to the same period in 2014. Total traffic numbers from the Holiday weekend will be available on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 by 12:00 PM.
