I-4 Polk County Road Work Update for the Week of November 20, 2022

This weekly report is prepared by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform the public about upcoming road work in Polk County in Southwest Florida, for the week of November 20, 2022.

Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for Interstate 4 road projects.

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

Florida Governor Gives Updates on Preparation Efforts Ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis gave an update on state preparation efforts ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole and urged Floridians to listen to local emergency management officials for updates related to their counties. There are currently 16,000 linemen staged to respond to power outages following the storm in addition to 600 guardsmen that have been activated, and 7 Urban Search and Rescue teams on standby to deploy following the storm. I-4 Lane Closures in Disney Area From Exit 64 to 58, Expect Delays

The Florida Department of Transportation reports that there will be intermittent nightly lane closures on westbound Interstate 4 from State Route 417 (Exit 64 – Central Florida Greenway) to County Route 532 (Exit 58 – Championsgate Boulevard).

1 right lane will be closed Monday, October 17 through Thursday, November 10 from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. Traffic delays are expected.

New I-4 Exit to Daryl Carter Parkway in Orlando Set to Begin Construction

Improvements at Daryl Carter Parkway and Interstate 4 (I-4) are set to begin soon!

This project will add three new ramps connecting Interstate 4 (I?4) to Daryl Carter Parkway: exit ramps from both directions of I?4 to Daryl Carter Parkway and an entrance ramp to eastbound I?4. It will also convert the existing Daryl Carter Parkway overpass to a diverging diamond interchange.

A westbound I?4 entrance ramp will be built as part of a future project.

Hurricane Ian Update: Catastrophic Storm Surge, Winds and Flooding Expected

At 1100 AM EDT (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Ian was located about 45 miles west-northwest of Naples, Florida. Ian is moving toward the north-northeast near 9 mph (15 km/h). This general motion with a reduction in forward speed is forecast today, followed by a turn toward the northeast on Thursday. Hurricane Ian Update: New Watches and Warnings Issued for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina

At 1100 AM EDT, the center of Hurricane Ian was located about 305 miles south-southwest of Sarasota, Florida. Ian is moving toward the north near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue today. A turn toward the north-northeast with a reduction in forward speed is forecast tonight and Wednesday.

Hurricane Ian Update: Road Construction and Lane Closures Suspended in Tampa Bay Area

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has suspended all lane closures in the Tampa Bay area. With Hurricane Ian approaching, the Department has directed FDOT road and bridge contractors to temporarily suspend all operations on active construction projects within the projected path.

All available lanes will remain open on the interstate and State Road system in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus counties.
